Our friendly staff are passionate about teaching and enjoy having the opportunity to provide a caring, safe, stimulating and challenging environment for the children we teach, in order to promote independence and a passion for lifelong learning.

Our staff have a fantastic understanding of the EYFS curriculum and are highly skilled to support the needs of our children.

We have two class teachers, Miss Wilcox and Miss Parkin, and are supported by Mrs Heaven and Miss Sutcliffe.

At Linaker we are passionate about teaching our children to read.  We use the Read Write Inc phonics scheme and children have daily phonics lessons.  Parents are asked to support their child by sharing books with them and using the online homework videos, learning with ‘Ellie and Fred’.

The films below show parents and carers how we teach children to read and write with 'Read Write Inc'.

The films will help you and your child to practise together at home.

If you have any questions, please ask your child's class teacher.

Our School day starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3:25pm. Our lunch time is 11.45am-12.45pm. Children have a PE lesson on a Thursday morning, we ask that parents / cares provide their child with a PE kit – a white t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps.

Our day consists of a mixture of short teacher inputs, group and individual adult supported activities and time learning through independent play.  As well as learning new educational skills, we work on becoming members of the school community. We learn to form new friendships, become more independent, follow structures and routines and let our little personalities grow.

Our Early Years curriculum has been designed to be challenging, inspiring and adapted for all. It gives our children the broad range of knowledge and skills needed to provide a strong foundation for future progress, whilst having the flexibility to allow us to follow children’s interests and nurture these to ignite their enthusiasm for learning.  Our curriculum is underpinned by the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework and guided by the document ‘Development Matters’.  We provide an engaging and stimulating environment, both indoors and outdoors, which supports our children to develop the skills to become more independent and resilient in their learning.

Miss Wilcox, Miss Parkin

Welcome to Reception

A bit about us...

There are two classes in Reception: Miss Wilcox's Reception Class (R - SW) and Miss Parkin's Reception & Year 1 Class (R/1 - SP).

The Support Staff in Reception are: Mrs Heaven, Miss Sutcliffe, Mrs Aktar, Miss Brankin and Miss McSharry.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) continues until the end of the Reception year. The EYFS curriculum is based on the three prime areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development; together with the four specific areas of learning: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

At Linaker Primary, we pride ourselves on delivering a progressive and exciting curriculum for all our pupils so that they thrive throughout their primary education and beyond.

There are two Reception classes, however the children learn within an open plan classroom and the outdoor classroom throughout the day. We pride ourselves in promoting an oracy rich environment and place the development of children’s communication and language at the heart of what we do.

Children have daily RWI phonics sessions each morning, which teaches children sounds, the letters that represent them and how to form letters when writing. Children are then taught to ‘orally blend’ sounds together to read words in books which are carefully matched to their phonic ability.

We have a short daily mathematics carpet session each afternoon, before continuing our learning in the continuous provision with a balance of adult and child-initiated learning through play.

If you have any questions or queries, the class teachers are available to speak at the end of the day. You can also contact us by emailing: office@linaker.org.uk
